August 3-13: Watch Team USA row for gold in Rio de Janeiro.
August 14-28: Grab an oar and learn to row with EBRC!
WHO:
You, as long as you’re 22 or older (USRowing rules). No experience necessary, all fitness levels welcome. EBRC is a community club open to rowers of all sorts; we race competitively at the local and national level, but racing is not required.
WHAT:
Your Learn To Row session will cover boat handling, terminology, and the rowing stroke. You’ll do some calisthenics and spend some time on an erg (an indoor rowing machine…although we use them outdoors when weather permits!) to get a feel for the parts of the stroke. You’ll take your first strokes from our novice barge, where you’ll begin to get comfortable being on the water and handling oars.
Over two weeks, you’ll deepen your understanding, have time to interact with current team members during their regular practice times (please ask questions!), and prepare to take out a real training shell.
Your coach for this session is Sara Nevin, head coach for the Mills Cyclones, former collegiate champion rower, and EBRC Board member. Coach Sara brings to our boathouse not only a lifetime of experience, but also a particular passion for introducing novices to the sport.
