USRowing Masters National Championships 2018: RECAP

This year, EBRC was delighted to race (and volunteer) on Lake Merritt in USRowing’s Masters National Championships.

Partnering with Visit Oakland and Lake Merritt Rowing Club to welcome and support this regatta was an honor for our crew; it was great seeing so many fellow rowers enjoying our city!

Although this is not our first time at Nationals, having it here at home meant far more entries than we usually send.

Special thanks
Volunteering: AP Pearce, with us from Mills College this summer, took on the job of organizing about 40 EBRC volunteers (masters and juniors) for dock and booth coverage.

Planning: Sara Nevin, EBRC’s rep on the planning team, worked closely with Beth Anderson (formerly of Oakland Strokes), USRowing, and Visit Oakland for more than five months to plan the entire regatta.

EBRC booth: Erin Griffith organized the booth and sale of tanks, caps, and beverages. Virginia Roe organized the advocacy for Estuary Park (sign the petition!), and provided postcards, the banner, and a 1:1 meeting with Oakland mayor Libby Schaaf.

Oakland Tech Rowing: Shoutout to OT parents and rowers for being dock masters, staffing the booth, washing boats, being in the stakeboats, carrying oars, carrying shoes, and for representing our city and our EBRC family.

Visit Oakland: Many thanks to Mark Everton, Executive Director of Visit Oakland, and his amazing staff who worked with USRowing on coming back to Oakland, and worked with the city, clubs like ours, and multiple vendors to organize an incredibly successful event. USRowing was so impressed that they committed to coming back in 2020!
