Come and join the celebration as we take to the Oakland Estuary for a fun day of racing that celebrates diversity, inclusion, and community on and off the water. Rowers of all genders, races, and abilities are welcome to showcase their strengths. Whether you're a seasoned pro or new to the sport, we have a place for you at Boats Without Barriers.

the history

Started in 2022

In 2022, we decided to stand up against the discriminatory laws in Florida by lobbying USRowing not to hold Masters Nationals there. Our response was to create an alternative regatta that would celebrate inclusivity and accessibility in rowing for all races, genders and abilities. And so, Boats Without Barriers was born!


It was an incredible success, and we knew we had to keep it going. Our mission is to make rowing accessible and welcoming to everyBODY, and we'll continue to do that every year with this amazing event.

500m Sprint Boat Sponsorship:$500

Sponsor a boat for the 500m sprints, with all proceeds donated to Destiny Arts.

  • Destiny Arts was founded by Black and Queer dance and martial artists in 1988. Destiny uses movement-based arts to uplift youth voice, supporting pathways for young people to express themselves, advocate for justice and equity, fight against the systemic racism that continues to impact Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC), and build a community where everyone feels seen, valued, and free.
